General Building Contractor
A General Building Contractor is a small to medium building contractor covering a variety of trades such as Groundworker, Bricklayer, Joiner bringing in specialist sub-contractors (i.e. Electrician, Plumber, Roofer and Landscaper) to help them complete their projects well, on time and on budget.
More often than not, Building Contractors concentrate on completing their projects well, on time and on budget and for over 20 years I’ve seen your problems and we understand how you may feel in not having time to worry or think about construction Health & Safety issues or vetting your sub-contractors or keeping up with construction health and safety legislation and knowledge.
A Building Contractor will usually carry out construction work as a Principal Contractor (under CDM Regulations) on commercial projects – involving short duration repairs and refurbishment work starting with 10 or fewer people on site rising to large commercial refurbishments for business commercial clients or housing developments for property developers where site health and safety responsibilities lie completely with the Building Contractor.
Building Contractors are further exposed and at risk of their project receiving a HSE visit and potential investigation in to a failure of their Principal Contractor / Contractor duties under the CDM Regulations possibly leading to a Fee for Intervention (FFI) or a prosecution leading to a large fine or imprisonment!..
We have worked with 100’s of building contractors over the years by offering bespoke services and solutions to their problems.
Salus have an easy 3 step process that guarantees compliance to the CDM Regulations, that manages the assessment of multiple contractors and provides support which takes the Complexity out of Compliance for the Building Contractor.

General Contractor Tradesman
A General Contractor Tradesman is a contractor and includes sub-contractors or any individual self-employed worker in a variety of trades such as Groundworker, Bricklayer, Joiner, Electrician, Plumber, Roofer, Plasterer, Painter and Landscaper.
Invariably tradesmen are ‘on the tools’ themselves and for over 20 years I’ve seen your problems and we understand how you may feel overwhelmed with health and safety and don’t have time to keep up with construction health and safety knowledge or be able to compile company Health & Safety documentation and get SSIP Accredited.
A General Contractor Tradesman will usually carry out construction work on:
Domestic projects – involving extensions, repairs and refurbishment work on the homes of domestic clients. A tradesman will usually have the sole responsibility for site health and safety on these projects.
Small commercial projects – involving short duration repairs and refurbishment work (with 15 or fewer people on site) for business commercial clients where site health and safety responsibilities are shared between the tradesmen and the commercial client.
Tradesmen are those at most risk of injury and ill health on construction sites and suffer the majority of construction fatal accidents each year because they have first-hand experience in doing the actual work. Most deaths involve falls from height including: ladders, scaffolds, working platforms, roof edges, and falls through fragile roofs or rooflights.
We have worked with 100’s of tradesmen and contractors over the years by offering bespoke services and solutions to their problems.
Salus have an easy 3 step process that guarantees compliance to the CDM Regulations and gets tradesmen and contractors SSIP Accreditation application accepted and renewed each year as part of our services.
